ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Let’s face it, being Alive IS a vibe.

The ‘Alive is the Vibe’ campaign was designed and inspired for people impacted by the number of young drivers and passengers being injured on our roads because they were not wearing their seatbelts, or not wearing them properly, in a crash.

The visuals were created to draw attention and create a powerful message to remind people that seatbelts save lives, using the heartbeat line as the lifeline of the seatbelt.

The campaign aims to remind people on the roads that seatbelts do save lives, if worn correctly. It’s not an option or up for discussion. Whether it’s a short trip or a road trip, it can’t save you if it’s not on (properly).

TAKING ACTION

My research showed that a quarter of 17–25-year-olds believe that not wearing their seatbelt as a passenger or driver is safe and one-fifth admitted to not wearing their seatbelts correctly.

These alarming statistics are the reason for this campaign – to create an open discussion and awareness for drivers and passengers to realise the unnecessary risk they are taking when not putting on their seatbelt or not putting it on properly.

Wearing a properly adjusted seatbelt halves the risk of fatal or serious injuries.

HOW SEATBELTS KEEP YOU SAFE

How to wear seatbelts safely:

-        Always ensure your seatbelt is properly adjusted and securely fastened.

-        The sash should be placed over the middle of the shoulder and diagonally across the chest.

-        The lap belt should sit snuggly over the hips.

-        The seatbelt should be taut, with no twists or slackness.

WHY IT MATTERS

Hi, I’m Adele Litt, a Graphic Design Diploma Student from South Regional TAFE, and my ‘Alive is the Vibe’ campaign was the selected Re:act Regional campaign in WA.

This campaign has given me a new outlook on road safety and opened my eyes to not just my own safety but those around me, my young children included. Educating younger people about the importance of correct seatbelt use early on to help them prevent mistakes that could cost a life is imperative.

MY STORY

With thanks to Re:act and its partners.
